William E. Wolfe entered the service during peace time, May 8, 1941, at Omaha, Nebraska. He left Omaha for Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, being there until May 30, 1941. He was transferred to Camp Clairbourne, Louisiana, joining the 168th Infantry, 34th Division for a period of about six months. On January 1, 1942, he was sent to Fort Dix, New Jersey, for an overseas assignment. On April 7, 1942, he was sent to the European Theater with the 2nd Infantry, 5th Division to Iceland for 16 months, England for three months and Ireland for seven months. He was transferred back to Camp Carson, Colorado, for a period of time. On December 9, 1944, he was discharged from Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
