Jacob Root in or around Augusta County Virginia. Beth Salwaechter (View posts) Posted: 6 Apr 2004 2:19PM GMT Classification: Query Surnames: Root

I have come into possession of my grandmother's genealogy work. She has that William Thomas Root, born March 1835 in Stuaton, VA, was born to Jacob Root and Mary Hefner. It is said that Jacob died when William was 7. Jacobs brother's were John and William Root. It was noted that the brothers were soldiers in the War with mexico and that John Root could life a cannon which no other man in his company could lift. William (Jacob's brother) lived in Ohio in the 1850's. I do not know Jacob's parents, but the records indicated Jacob's grandparents arrived from Holland in VA. There were 3 brothers, Jacob stayed in VA and the other two went North to Vermont, Rhode Island, CT and MA (not sure). William Thomas went to Ohio in the 1850's and then on to Illinois in 1859.
