__________________________ This card is for the William Houston who established Houston's Fort in Southwest Virginia about 1774. It is not clear that William of Houston's Fort is the same person as the William Huston who died in Jonesville in 1819. William of Houston's Fort may have died in Russell County about 1803. He is believed to be a kinsman of John Walker IV of the Wigton Walker line, who settled nearby, and of his father John Walker III who married Ann Houston. How Ann and William are related is not clear. Ann is known to be the child of Christopher Huston of Mill Creek Hundred, and William is presumed be related in someway to him. His wife is sometimes identified as Mary Norman. It has been suggested that Mary's surname was "Norman", probably because she and her husband Samuel Ewing named a daughter "Mary Norman" He may have eventually relocated to Powell Valley settling near Jonesville, and raised at least two children
It is not, however, clear that this is the same person |
