- Gillispie, William - entered service 1776 Botetourt County, Virginia; entered service 1777 Greenbrier County, Virginia; died 3/20/1833 Scipio Township, Meigs County, Ohio; widow Catharine died there 1854 at daughter's house; son Lewis Gillespy applied for pension age 57 in Gallia County, 1857 for self & other surviving children of soldier; Joseph, Sarah Campbell (both of Jackson County, Ohio), Baker (Ross County, Ohio), Isabella Riggs (Meigs County, Ohio), James (Blackford County, Indiana), & William G (Wood County, Virginia), & Pension Application Rejected, insufficient proof of service; son Lewis made affidavit age 78 in Tussola Township, Douglas County, Illinois, he gave no aid to Confederate cause during Revolutionary War (s/b Civil War?); Lewis applied for bounty warrant age 77 in Champaign County, Ohio, 1885, & Bounty Land Application rejected, insufficient proof of service; soldier's surname also spelled Gillespy.
