S M W 2 IN NY KY --- BROTHERS UNITED AFTER 53 YEARS --------------- Separated for more than half century, two brothers were reunited here this week for the first time since they parted to seek their fortunes in 1884. William F. Gee 81, of 204 West Denver street, who for years thought his brother , Samuel Bert Gee, to dead, was overjoyed to receive a letter from his long lost brother was living in Pennsylvania. Bert had recently heard from relatives or friends that they belived his brother was still living and a resident of Lansing. He immediatley wrote here asking confirmation of the report. He was advised by "Bill" that he was "still kicking". and both began plans for a reunion. Bert, who is nine years his brother's jounior promised to visit him here "in the fall" Bert arrived this week, and both are happily swapping stories of their adventures and experiences since they last saw each other 53 years ago. Both men are still springhtly and good health, though their combined ages total more than half a century and a half. BROTHERS MEET AFTER 53 YEARS --------------- Lansing, Sept. 30 --- Fifty-three years ago Samuel "Bert" Gee left the employ of his brother, William F., and decided to shift for himself. Up until this week, the brothers had never communicated nor seen each other since but today they are reunited. Will, who leads an easy life with his daughter and son-in-law at 207 West Denver street, has reached the age of 81, long since having given up hope of seeing Bert again. Then not so long ago the unexpected happened. Back in Pennsylvania where Bert went in 1884 to work in lumber camps, the "lost" brother applied for an old age pension. In order to complete the records, he wrote to a niece for family data and learned of his brother Will in Lansing. It wasn't many days before he hopped a bus and came speeding here. Both admitted they didn't expect to see the other looking so changed, but after a few moments together, it was just like old times. Will has been retired for a number of years, once having been in the Oil rig building business. BROTHERS SEPERATED HALF CENTURY ------------------------ Swapping stories, Samuel "Bert" Gee 72 (left) and his brother, William F. Gee, 81, of 207 West Denver street, get a big laugh out of life after meeting for the first time in 53 years. 84 ON 20 th BIRTHDAY ----------- 84 years old on February 29, William F. Gee celebrated his 20 th birthday this year, when his eight sons and daughters their husbands and wives and his 22 grand children gathered Saturday, evening at the home of his daughter Mrs. Jay Groh, 330 Paris Avenue, to honor him with a surprise party, Mr. Gee missed one of his infrequent birthday celebrations in the eight- year period of 1896 - 1904 because of the absence of leap year at the turn of the century. DEATHS -- William F. Gee; 1943 Nov. 15, William F. Gee, 87, died at the home of his daughter Mrs. Floyd Bowers, 1121 East Michigan Avenue, early Monday morning, he has resided in Lansing the past twenty years, having spent most of his lifetime as an Oil Contractor and Driller; Suvivors include four other daughters, Mrs. Elroy Groh of Stockbridge, Mrs. James Parks, Mrs. Ray Perry, Mrs. Jay Groh all of Lansing; three sons, Willis, Charles and Forgus of Lansing; 23 grandchildren four of which are in the armed forces. The body was removed to the Gorsline-Runciman funeral home where funeral services will be held at 1:30 o'clock Wednesday afternoobn. Rev. Gilbert Miles of the Judson Memorial Baptist church will officate with interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery. |
