William was ordained curate of Aldbourne, Wilts, 1885 (Times). William attended London College of Divinity, held various curacies in Wiltshire, and became vicar of Stow Bedon, Norfolk, in 1892, He remained there until 1910, when his wife attained the living of Chudleigh, nr Newton Abbot, to which she presented her husband. Ellen Hughes Wood was an aunt of Sir Kingsley Wood, chancellor of the exchequer ("Iron Elwells"). In 1881 W. R. Dunlop Elwell (1850 Weston S.M., private school master), wife Ellen H. (1844 Bourne, Lincolns.), children (b. Weston) Royston W.D. (1878), Edgar M. (1879), Violet (1881), and pupils were at Dunlop House, Weston S.M. (census).
