The 1558 will of vicar John Carpenter (James's brother) includes[1]:

"I bequeath to Richard, John the younger, James and William the sonnes of William Carpenter, my brother, 20 English sheep, between them."
"I bequeath to James Carpenter, my brother's son, my donge wayne and bullock of one years age. I bequeath to John Carpenter his brother a bullock of one years age."

  2. Birth year estimated based on estimated birth years of his children, and the fact that his wife was still alive in 1572 (mentioned in the will of their son John the Elder).
  3. A note previously on another page suggested that he died in 1566. Presumably based on a statement by Harry Rogers, but the evidence is unknown.
  4. Harry Rogers conflated him with William of the Dilwyn family. However, the Kinnersley branch is separate from the Dilwyn branch.
