Will (Partial)

The will of James Carpenter of Kinnersley was dated 20 Feb 1588 [probably 1588/89] and probated 1589[1].

"First I give to the repairing of the Church of Kinnersley 2/9d, all the rest of my goods, I give to James and Thomas, my sonnes, to be equally divided between them, paying out of the same goods, the following
Viz: To Richard Eastbache - 20d.
To Eleanor Walls. - 20d.
And to every of my son James daughters, 11d a piece."
"I make the said Thomas my son, executor of this my will."

Mention in Other Wills

The 1558 will of vicar John Carpenter (James's uncle) includes[1]:

"I bequeath to Richard, John the younger, James and William the sonnes of William Carpenter, my brother, 20 English sheep, between them."
"I bequeath to James Carpenter, my brother's son, my donge wayne and bullock of one years age."

The 1587 will of John Carpenter the younger (James's brother) includes:

"Item: I give to Eleanor Carpenter the pot that was my brother James pot."

This gives the impression that John died after James, but James Carpenter's will was probated 1589 and his brother John's will was probated 1587. Presumably there is a story (or an error) behind this.
