Advisory on William Armstrong

There was were several settlers with the name William Armstrong in early Augusta County, that can be easily confused. This William Armstrong lived on Christian's Creek in Beverley Manor in Augusta County and migrated later to Hawkins County, Tennessee.

  • Page 11.--17th August, 1761. James Armstrong and Jean ( ) to Wm. Armstrong, £100, 485 acres in Beverley Manor, beginning at the Christian's White Oak Stake. (Note: this tract is the 485-acre tract acquired by James Armstrong (father of this William) from John Davidson in 1745 and 1747/8, part of Davidson's original 785-acre patent).

  • Page 390.-17th October, 1751. John Rutledge's will--Aged father: nephew, George Rutledge, was partner with James Bell in a tract of land; 400 acres on Long Glade conveyed to them by Thos. Gilespy; brother, Wm. Rutledge; brother, Thomas Rutledge; sister, Catherine Marshal; sister, Jean Rutledge. Executors, Thomas Rutledge and James Bell. Teste: William Armstrong, John Flood, Hugh Means. Proved, 26th November, 1751, by all witnesses, and Thomas Rutledge qualifies executor, with sureties Wm. Thompson, Wm. Preston.
  • Page 544.--22d February, 1764. Henry Willson and Mary to John Taylor, £55, 230 acres in Beverley Manor on a branch of Christian's Creek; corner to the Christians' land; James Caldwell's corner, William Armstrong's line.
