Listed in Meredith Information as marrying Martha before 24 May 1801, which would make him very young

According to the research of Opal Anquish Masters (1899-4 Nov. 1995) William was a Christian preacher but no denomination is listed. He lists himself as a farmer. He lived for a time on Bowman Ridge, 3 miles from Glen Easton on a farm of about 55 acres known as "Old Place". In the 1850 Census he lists his birthplace as Delaware. I have found a William Anguish in Kent Co. Delaware in the 1800 Census, but I do not have proof that it is the same William. He is listed as the only male and is (16-26) with 3 females under 10 and 3 females between 26-45. He would have been 15-16 by the ages he has listed at later dates.

With the information I have about the Merediths, it seems that this is my William in Delaware. Since he requested a pension from the 1812 War from Belmont, Ohio, he must have spent some time in Ohio and maybe Martha died there. It seems in 1812 William lived in St. Clairsville, Belmont Co., Ohio because in 1852 at the age of 74 he applied for bounty land because of his service with Capt. James Campbell's Co. of OH Militia and in 1813 he served as a Private in Capt. John Dillon's Co. or in Capt. Samuel Dillon's Co. of Ohio Militia. This land was not granted as proof of service was not furnished to their satisfaction. I have researched and have not been able to find his name listed in the records provided to me from the Ohio Historical Society or in the Archive records. The rest of his life he spent in Marshall County W.V.

In Opal's research she listed Martha as from Monroe Co., Ohio and maybe that is where she ended her life but I have no proof of this.

His second wife was Mariah Wykert and although her family lived in Marshall Co. we have no information about their marriage date or place and when she died or where she was buried. She is listed in Wykert information as a child of Frances Wykert and Elizabeth Shefer, and later listed as deceased in the will of her father with her 3 children by William as heirs. Therefore we know she died before 1827.

William married for the third time to his daughter-n-law's ( Hannah Gorby Anguish) older sister Elizabeth Gorby Lemasters (a widow) in 1839.

Census Records

1800 Kent Co. Delaware ? 1830 Ohio Co. VA ? 1840 Marshall Co. VA 1850 Marshall Co. VA 1860 Not listed but his wife and 2 children were so we presumed that he died between 1852/60 but his grave is unknown.

Land Deeds

I have copies of land deeds where he has bought and sold land and also land that was sold by his widow after his death.

Marriage Certificates - I have a copy of his marriage to his third wife Elizabeth.

William Anguish and his children are mentioned in the book entitled "The Gorby Family" by Alva Gorby US/CAN 929-273 G65g. I have a copy of this book and it lists the family to the generation of S.S. Lancaster and Estella Anguish,(my grandparents) and their children..

Film # 1068042 Fiche # 6901374 William Anguish born in Stranraer, Wigtown Scotland in 1769 and another brother by that name in 1771. The father is listed as William Anguish and I have a copy of a Christening but no mother is listed. Other children by this William Anguish are: Alexander 1763, Andrew 1765, Charles 1767, William 1769, William 1771, Isobal 1774, Alexander 1775. I do not know if any of these Anguishs could be related to my William Anguish as he is reported to have come from Scotland. Many of the early immigrants from Scotland were Presbyterian and came to America by way of Ulster,Ireland and were known as Scots-Irish.

On the Fiche in the Scottish Records I found a David Anguish and Jannet McCaul married on the 21 July 1743 in Penningham, Wigtown Scotland.
