Facts and Events
Thank you for all the wonderful information. Yes we are related. This is really exciting to find someone that is really fully related. William the father of David and William is really related to both of us. I am the great great granddaughter of William the brother of David. William was born in 1804 to William and Martha. He will appear on census in Morgan County Ohio for a large part of his life. He had 16 children and my great grandfather was one of the youngest from the third marriage. I guess both William's had 3 wives. We knew that our William had a younger brother David. We were guessing that he was born around 1806. I will send you all of the family names and dates later, I have to go someplace today, but will send them tonight. My William died July 17, 1866 in Morgan County Ohio, they said he was struck with lightening while hoeing corn. His son Leroy Herschel born in 1859 is my great grandfather. I will write again tonight. Thanks again. Charlotte Tatman
Hello, I am so glad you let me know about your part of the Anguish research. My gggrandfather William (brother of David) was born June 27, 1804 in PA. He was the son of William and Martha J. Meredith and the information passed down from one of his daughters said that he was born in PA and raised in Marshall County, WV. His brother David was supposed to be 4 years younger. William first married Margaret Tweedy (born Dec. 22, 1803) in Jefferson County, Ohio on Sept. 4, 1826. She died in 1835. He also lived for a time in Guernesy County, Ohio. Children from the marriage of William and Margaret Tweedy were:1. James M. Anguish born Nov. 28, 1827 who married Margaret Carmen on August 7, 1859. He died Aug. 16, 1903. He was married in Morgan County, OH and is buried in Wolf Creek Cem. in Morgan county. 2. John Tweedy Anguish born Nov. 27, 1830; died Oct. 10, 1839. 3. David born Nov. 18, 1832 and died Feb. 16, 1846. After Margaret Tweedy died around 1835 William married again. This wife was Mary Carman; daughter of John and Mary Carman. She was born Feb. 27, 1817 and died in 1847. She is buried in Wolf Creek Cemetery in Union Township in Morgan County, OH. Children of William and Mary Carmen were: 1. Martha Jane born Jan. 6, 1837 who married Benoni Thompson. She died Feb. 3, 1930. The information about the family was written down by her before she died. 2. William C. born April 15, 1838 and married Mary E. Thompson, he died March 1924. 3. Mary Ann born June 10, 1840 and died in 1918. She did not marry. 4. Elizabeth born Oct. 29, 1841 (possibly married to Henry Drake in 1865 or John Wilson in 1876; or may have been married to both) she died in 1927. 5. Louisa Julia born June 18, 1843 died 1917. She never married. 6. Cyrus M. Anguish born June 16, 1845 died July 7, 1845. 7. Thomas Gaston born August 20, 1846 died June 30, 1847. 8. Joseph Alexander born August 29, 1847, married Sarah Jane Smith; died June 8, 1914. Mary Carman, William's second wife may have died in childbirth in 1847. After her death William married his third wife, Angeline Phillips. She was born July 16, different sources say 1817, 1818 or 1820, not sure which is right. She married William on March 22 either 1852 or 1853. Children from this marriage were: 1. Jerome Filmore born May 16, 1854 died May 28, 1923. Do not know his wife's name but he had children. 2. Victoria Armintha born June 14, 1855 married Dec. 18, 1871 to Edward Fouts. She died either Sept. 10, 1905 or April 22, 1913 (sources differed on this) 3. Alvin Baxter born Feb. 25, 1857 married Aug. 16, 1877 to Elizabeth Spurrier, he died about 1939 in Bicknell, Indiana. 4. Leroy Hershel born Aug. 20, 1859 married to Mary Ann Spurrier and died March 29, 1930. They are both buried in New Straightsville, in Perry County, Ohio. He is my great grandfather. 5. Leota Lucinda born May 25, 1862 married ____ Smith and died April 22, 1913. William Anguish was killed July 17, 1866 when he was struck by lightning while hoeing corn. According to Martha Jane Anguish Thompson his daughter. If you are interested in following the children of Leroy Hershel Anguish I can give you that information. One thing about this section of the family is that there is a type of colon cancer that is inherited and it appears at a young age. My son was the fourth generation of this family to die of colon cancer and he had his first at age 22. There is a study of colon cancer and the family is included. I have the family research from the Cleveland Clinic showing the members of the family and how many had cancer. Of the 8 children of Leroy Hershel Anguish 7 of them had cancer. It spreads out to all the following generations from all of the children. I hope the rest of the Anguish family does not have this also. |
