Velma Floy Hawkins, the third child of Jonas and Louisa Hawkins, was born in Tipton County, Indiana on 9 October 1886. She married William Earl Pratt on 21 March 1906 and they had three children, Thelma Jean, Sarah Martha, and William Jonas. Velma and Earl moved quite often. The children went to school in Kokomo, in Indianapolis, and in Lexington, Kentucky before they and Velma moved back to Sharpsville in 1921. After Velma divorced W. Earl Pratt,in late 1921 or early 1922, she "did hair", and stayed with women after child birth. An old account book shows that her fee for setting hair was 25 cents.
Velma married Isaac Marion Henderson 13 August 1930. Isaac, born 15 May 1870 in Johnson County, Indiana, was a graduate of the Purdue University School of Pharmacy. He worked with laboratory staffs in New York, Virginia, and as a chemist in Oklahoma, and held positions with the Hook Drug Company of Indiana. Isaac died 12 September 1944.
Velma, a tall lady, had worked as a nurse, and was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, and of the Helpful Hint Club of Sharpsville, Indiana. A niece described her as "always a very proper lady who wore white gloves, and hats." She died 11 May 1972 and is buried in the Sharpsville, Indiana Cemetery (Sec. 4, Row 11, #19) along side her son William Jonas Pratt. W. Earl Pratt died in Texas in the early 1940's and is buried in Amarillo, Texas.
