Louisa's father, James Turner, had first married Rachel Haworth , and they had five daughters. Rachel died 8 April 1858, and James, with five daughters to raise, on 17 June 1858 married Elizabeth (Purvis) Bess, who had a son Charles from her first marriage. Born 7 October 1864 in Tipton County, Indiana, Louisa was the fifth of six children born to James and Elizabeth , and the only one to survive to adulthood. James died 1 February 1867, when Louisa was two years old, and Elisabeth, on 15 December 1868 married Cread Tracy who provided for Louisa until she was married at age 17 to Jonas. Louisa was born on the Turner property that joined the southern edge of the land that Jonas inherited, and lived her entire life, other than a few years in Sharpsville, in "Section 11" of Liberty Township, Tipton County, Indiana..
Louisa’s name was spelled with an "a" in the 1870 and the 1880 census, her marriage license to Jonas, and on her son Harry’s marriage license. At some time she started spelling it with an "e", and Louise is used on later letters, transactions, and on her burial stone. Louise's father’s youngest sister was also named Louisa Richey Turner, and possibly the change was made to avoid any identity problems associated with the duplication of their names.
Louise died 23 March 1945, at age 81, and is buried in the Sharpsville Cemetery. In her later years she suffered painfully with arthritis.
