Thomas Hendrix Tarbet Jr.

T.H. was born Mar 25, 1914 in Rule TX, the twin brother to Grover Cleveland Tarbet. As a small boy he moved with his parents to Lamessa, TX and grew up on the farm in Dawson Co. TX. He attended Abiline Christian College, (Now Abiline Christian University) in preparation for the ministry for the Church of Christ. He preached in Oregon, Virginia, Texas, and New Mexico, as well as spending 5 years as a missionary in Australia. While preaching in Melrose New Mexico he met Wanna Laverne Queen (b. Nov 19, 1918) and they married on Apr. 2, 1941 in Alburquerque, N.M..

Wanna died September 28, 1980 and is buried in the Memorial Park West in Vernon, TX.

After the death of his 1st wife Tom moved to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. where he preached for the Poughkeepsie Church of Christ. While there he met and married Leola Varner Glaze of Abiline , TX. on Sept. 11, 1982. Tom and Leola moved into his house in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. where they remained for several years until Tom retired. At that time they moved back to Abiline.

After Tom moved to Poughkeepsie he decided that working as a preacher as a single man made his work more difficult than necessary. He decided to "go shopping" for a new bride who would be willing to move to New York and assist him in his work as preacher. He "interviewed" ladies whom he had known from his college days, and widows of men he had known. Some expressed some interest, but only Leola was willing to travel to New York to "See what it's like" there. She chose a time when several students from Abiline Christian were going to Poughkeepsie for a summer missionary trip. She enjoyed here time there so much that she immediately began making plans to marry Tom and move there. Late in 1982 she and Tom moved into his house in Poughkeepsie and began their married life together. Tom spent about 5 years in New York and retired back to Abiline Texas.

In 2001 both he and Leora were suffering from Altzhimers disease and they relocated at their family's insistence to a nursing Home in Lake Worth, TX. Where he lived until he died in Jan of 2002.

After his death, Leora was transfered to a nursing home in west Texas near her son, where she still resides.
