Susan Priscilla Savage was born on 28th January 1905 at Dartford in Kent, daughter of Rosa Savage, formerly Godsmark, and her husband Walter Edmund Savage, a chemical packer. Susan was the sixth of the couple's seven children, although the eldest had died the year before Susan's birth. Susan was also the first child to be born in Dartford - the family had only recently moved there from Tottenham in the northern suburbs of London. At the time of Susan's baptism they were living at 118 Fulwich Road in the town. By the 1911 census they had moved a short distance to 195 Fulwich Road, where they were to stay until at least the mid 1920s.

Susan's father Walter died in 1923.

In 1930, aged 25, Susan married a Lyndon Herbert Jones. They had one daughter the following year. The 1939 Register, taken at the outbreak of the Second World War, finds Lyndon and Susan living in Dartford.

Susan's mother Rosa died in 1952. Susan and Lyndon were the executors of her will. At this time Lyndon was working as a milkman.

Lyndon died in 1975, aged about 68. Susan outlived him by eleven years, dying in 1986, aged 81.
