Facts and Events
Cleveland was both the twenty-second and twenty-fourth President of the United States--the only man to hold non-consecutive terms. He was defeated in the electoral college in 1892 by Benjamin Harrison, even though he won the popular vote. Before being elected president, he was mayor of Buffalo and governor of New York. Grover did not marry until after he became president. For the first 15 months of his administration, his sister Rose was First Lady. He then married the 21-year-old daughter of a friend, Frances Folsom. Grover's New England immigrant ancestor Robert Abell, who arrived with the Winthrop Fleet in 1630, provides a royal descent from King Edward I of England.
