Sebastian Schmucker, Clara (Hern) McDermott's Grandfather, was born on 11 May 1821 in Ehingen, Wurttemberg, Germany. He immigrated to New York on 24 Apr 1848. He married Elizabeth Marguerite Joly on 10 Feb 1851 in Fort Wayne, Allen, Indiana. . They were still living there in the 1860 US Census.Their first three babys, two sons and one daughter died in infancy. By the time Mary Louise (Munner) was born in 1856, they were living in Muskelon, Iowa. When Elizabeth's parents died, Sebastian was the executor of their will and shortly after he finished they moved to Texas before 1860. The railroad was offering an incentive to come to their new railhead in Ennis, Texas and both Sebastian and Elizabeth's brother, Charles took advantage of it. They had moved on to Ennis, by the time Munner (Mary Louise) was married in 1874 He is listed in Ellis, Texas, US Census in 1880, but died on 06 Nov 1880.
