Mary Louise Schmucker, Miriam's grandmother, was born on 12 Nov 1856 in Muscatine, Iowa (Muskelon in Marguerite, her daughter's written history.) Her grandparents had died in the spring, before Mary was born. After the estate was settled, Sebastian decided to take his family to Ennis, TX, because the railroad was offering a special promotion to bring settlers to their new rail hub in Ennis. At 25, she married John O. Hern on 22 Nov 1881 in Ennis, Texas. They lived in Rice and Waco, Texas before moving to the house in Dallas that John built for the family. They are listed in the 1910 Dallas City Directory as living at "212" instead of 718 Cantegral, but the address number was changed after that, as the plot plan also lists the address as 212. John died in 1911 but Mary continued to live in that house even after John died. She was Clara's mother and Clara and her children lived there and took care of her. The children all called her Munner. Her health was not very good and she needed goat's milk, so Clara bought and cared for a goat to provide it. She died on the 1st of August 1937 in Dallas, when she fell and fractured her hip. She is buried in Dallas, in the old Calvary Cemetery. (Oak Grove on Hall St.)
