Henry Schmucker was born on 31 Jul 1864. He was Grandma McDermott's Uncle. He married Cora Stover and they had 11 children. The younger ones played with his niece's children when they were growing up. As an old man, he was very heavy and used to wear a gold watch chain across his stomach that had a monkey he had carved from a peach pit attached to it. He would sit on the porch and whittle peach pit monkeys by the hour. He had a wicked sense of humor. When told he should lose weight, he said: "My doctor told me to exercise on an empty stomach, but I can't get Cora to stop eating." He died of cancer on 24 Jan 1940 in Dallas, Texas.
