- Family Notes per User:Diane Hosler.
They adopted two boys, Edward McNabb and Larry Lanore.
They live on a farm with Torch Lake frontage. It had a stone fence along the front and sides of the property. On Easter, Uncle Frank went out on the ice and scooped snow to make home made ice cream. Her young brother, Ted, stayed with her for a while after his mother died and after he had stayed with his Aunt Jennie. One day the school called to report he had skipped school. She was so mad because she knew where he was - across Torch Lake playing poker. It was winter so she put on coat, boots, etc. and went across the lake on the ice, got hold of him by the ear, and marched him all the way back home. When she told the story later she laughed about it.
They later moved into town and it was fascinating because the streets didn't have electric lights but had a lamp lighter who went around at night to light the lamps!
They then moved to a house at the edge of town and stayed there. Aunt Sadie was a wonderful cook and made the very very good, gooey cinnamon rolls. She cooked on a wood stove and heated her water in it, even the bath water. She took us to town for a town picnic, and took us with her to a Ladies Aid gathering where the ladies sat outside on chairs by a big farm house under a big tree. It was like out of a story book. She had a hearty laugh and big hug for us when we came.
Her sister Ardys, her father Alexander, and her niece Gloria also lived with her.
On Saturdays she faithfully put flowers on the alter for Sunday mass.
