BELOVED MAN CALLED AWAY Samuel R. Sutton, Resident of Muncie 53 Years, Succumbs After Long Illness.
Samuel R. Sutton, contractor and carpenter, who had resided in Muncie since 1859, when he came here from Jay county, died this morning about 4 o'clock at his home, 836 North Mulberry street, of complications following a paralytic strike that came more than a year ago. He had been bedfast for five weeks. Mr Sutton i said to have been the oldest member of the High Street Methodist Episcopal church in the number of years of membership, except one, the Rev. Henry Marsh, who became a member of the church in the same year that Mr. Sutton joined, in 1859. At that time and long afterwards the church was known as Simpson chapel.
He was connected with many of the old families of the city, and assisted in the construction of many Muncie buildings that are now called "landmarks." His death has been expected since the first of the year, as he became very feeble during the winter and required constant attendance.
There survive him three sons and two daughters: Elmer E. Sutton, of Bartlesville, Okla. ; Wilbur E. Sutton and George H. Sutton, of Muncie ; Mrs. Emma Teverbaugh, of Indianapolis, and Miss Mabel Sutton, Muncie. A sister, Mr. Emily Hall, of Dublin, Ind., and a brother, Dr. Henry A. Sutton, on Marion, Ind., six grandchildren and a great-grandchild also survive him, as do many other relatives.
While definite funeral arrangements have not been made, the services probably will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the residence, with Rev. Wallace W. Martin and Rev. J. E. Ervin officiating.
