Mabel Sutton Dies at Home
Miss Mabel Sutton, for many years one of Muncie's most widely known business women, died at 9 a.m. Friday at her home, 203 1/2 Wheeling after a long illness.
For many years Miss Sutton was associated with the Indiana Steel and Wire Co. and Kitselman Brothers, retiring only three years ago.
She was a younger sister of the late Wilbur E. Sutton, longtime editor of the Muncie Evening Press, and she was the last of the children born to Samuel and Amelia Sutton, pioneer residents of the community.
Miss Sutton spent her entire lifetime in Muncie and was active in many civic, church and social activities. She was a charter member of the Muncie Altrusa Club, a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Flower Mission of that church.
She is survived by a niece, Mrs. Edna Short of Coral Gables, a nephew, Donn Sutton of Northbrook, Ill., public relations director for the Borg-Warner and the sister-in-law, Mrs. Wilbur E. Sutton of Muncie.
Funeral services will be at Meeks Mortuary at 4:30 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Lewis Weber Gishler, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, in charge. Burial will be in Beech Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the Meeks Mortuary from 7 till 9 p.m. Friday and anytime before services Saturday.
