Twin of David Ball. Hill, p. 43-44; Cukro, p. 9, 37-38 (#13); Hayden, p. 55 Arthur Clark served as security to his marriage bond in Lancaster County (copy of bond in Samuel Ball file) One of the first Vestryman of St. Mark's Parish (then in Orange County), 1731. 25 JUN 1754. Line of Samuel Ball mentioned in a deed from William Russell to James Hunter in Great Fork of the Rappahannock. Culpeper DB B:144-14 (Dorman, 67). Will dated 16 SEP 1751, Culpeper County, VA WB A, p. 60-61. Names wife Ann Catherine, son William, dau. Margaret Ball, dau. Judith Hackley, James Pollard, daughter Mary Green, son-in-law Robert Green. Son William Ball, John Hackley and Robert Green [sons-in-law] executors. Proved 22 NOV 1751. (Copy in file) Many researchers have assumed James Pollard was a son-in-law, but this in error. He was a co-owner of a mill with Samuel Ball and this is why he was mentioned in the will. Hill does not include the fictional Ann Ball who never existed and who many say married James Pollard). Cukro does, though this is unlikely, as Samuel Ball's will names no such daughter. James Pollard was given 5 acres of land, probably a mill. James Pollard and Samuel Ball were business partners, but not in-laws. Both Hill and Cukro say that Mary was nicknamed Pattie (Patty is a nick-name for Martha, not Mary) and have her marrying Robert Green. The will of Samuel Ball names daughter Margaret Ball, and daughter Mary Green. The source of the name "Patty" comes from Green's Culpeper Notes, p. 61. Hill says that Margaret married William Barrow (no source). Both say that Mary is the same as Pattie. Only Cukro includes a daughter Ann m. Robert Green. Given this confusion, I've used Cukro's list of children which with the exception of Anne, agrees. References
