Biography[1]

Ruth Johnson's origins are not certain. She may have been born January 1, 1675, at Hampton Falls, New Hampshire, although no sources for her birth there have been found. She was not the daughter of Matthew Johnson and Rebecca (Wiswall) Johnson, as claimed by several sources.[2] [3] Matthew and Rebecca Johnson's daughter, Ruth (Johnson) Reed, was born January 1, 1675, at Woburn, Massachusetts, and married John Reed. Ruth and John Reed together acknowledged receipt of shares from her father, Matthew's estate, in April/May 1704. Ruth married Jeremiah Bean, son of John (MacBayne) Bean, about 1707, based on the birth of their first child; no records for their marriage have been found. According to one source, they became the parents of nine children, listed in her spouse's profile. According to author Richard Cutter, they also had a daughter named Mary, who married _____ James. [4][5] Other sources found do not show Ruth's last name as Johnson: One source gives her name as Ruth _____, and says they had seven children.[6] Cutter also says that Jeremiah's wife was Ruth _______, and that she died in 1758.[4] Another source shows that Jeremiah's wife name was Ruth _______, referencing their names with respect to their daughter, Hannah's marriage to John Elkins.[7] Ruth Bean died at Exeter, New Hampshire, before December 27, 1758, when her will was executed;[2] no records of her will have yet been found.
