== Biography ==There is some dispute whether the father of John Bean, born 1711, was John Bean-20 or his younger brother, Jeremiah, but he was definitely the grandson of John MacBayne born 1634 in Strathdearn, Inverness-shire, Scotland. The confusion may have occurred because John Bean, Jr. who was born in 1668, died in 1719. Jeremiah was the executive of his estate and may have taken his youngest child to live with him. Daniel Lancaster, in his History of Gilmanton [New Hampshire] relates: *Jeremy [Jeremiah] Bean, son of the first John, had a son John, who lived in Newmarket, and whose sons, Jude, David Stephen called "Farmer Bean," and Joseph all settled in town. [Gilmanton] [1] John, who was born in Exeter, New Hampshire, married Sarah (?nee) ... some say Rankin was her maiden name ... and lived in New Market, when it was incorporated from a section of Exeter. He was known locally as "John of New Market." He and his wife were members of the Congregational church. All five of their children were born in New Market, but John moved late in life to Gilmanton, to be with his sons. [2] Children of John and Sarah are:

  • Jude Bean, born June 1, 1742, married Susanna Durgin, born June 3, 1745
  • David Bean, born December 14, 1749, a Veteran of the War of 1812, married Anna Harper
  • Stephen Bean, born 1750, had at least two sons and three daughters, born at Gilmanton
  • Joseph Bean, born 1753, died September 11, 1821, at Gilmanton, Veteran of the Revolutionary War
  • Elizabeth Bean
