Ruth E. Gay Ruth E. Gay, 79, Topeka, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 1995, at a Topeka hospital. Mrs. Gay had worked at Jordan's Bakery and later at Bobo's Drive-In, Falley's, Food 4 Less, Engroff's Grocery Stores and Blaylock Drug Store. She was born March 28, 1915, in Clifton, the daughter of Edwin and Elna Olson Carlson. Mrs. Gay was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church and the Girard Circle at the church. She was a former member of the Topeka Artist Association. She was married to Fred Emile Gay on June 2, 1936. He died Aug. 30, 1981. Survivors include a son, Gary Gay, Topeka; three daughters, Trudy Copeland, Mesquite, Texas, Peggy Miller, Buena Park, Calif., and Sally Brooke, Topeka; two brothers, Clifford Carlson, Topeka, and Roy Carlson, Wichita; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Mount Calvary Cemetery. Mrs. Gay will lie in state after 2 p.m. today at the funeral home where a parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Name Catholic Church, 1114 S.W. 10th, Topeka, 66604, or to the Topeka Rescue Mission, 600 N. Kansas Ave., Topeka, 66608.
She died of cancer.
