Facts and Events
Robert Palmer was born in Balmaghie, but was first discovered as a schoolmaster at Southwick. He married Janet Mitchell there and five children were baptized at Southwick between 1820 and 1827. Unfortunately, records for marriages that took place in the parish of Colvend (including in the chapel at Southwick) did not find their way to the Scottish Record Office in Edinburgh, although records for baptisms did so. Between 1827 and 1830 Robert moved to Currie in Midlothian where three more children were born before 1840. Censuses of 1841 and following indicate he continued to be employed as a teacher throughout his life. |
