Southwick was an ancient parish, but when its original church fell into ruins in the 18th century it was merged with its neighbour Colvend. During the first half of the 19th century a new community sprang up outside the grounds of Southwick House, owned at that time by part of the Crichton-Stuart family who also had lands on the Isle of Bute. A church and a school were built at this location. The church is still in existence. Southwick Graveyard is situated at the sight of the original church, a mile or two away by road. Southwick was located in the parish of Colvend and Southwick in the former County of Kirkcudbrightshire in southwest Scotland. This area is now part of the unitary authority called the Dumfries & Galloway Council Area. [edit] Research TipsRefer to the parish of Colvend and Southwick |
