Isabella Palmer never married and spent her adult life living with her maternal aunt and uncle, Charles and Janet McKeand, in Gatehouse of Fleet, a town not far from her birthplace of Balmaghie. She assisted in the post office which was run by her uncle; she was probably postmistress for a time after her uncle's death.

    In memory of Charles McKeand, late postmaster and chief magistrate in Gatehouse of Fleet, died 16 Mar 1831 aged 62, by his widow, Janet Neilson, who died 1 Nov 1853, aged 79, highly respected, also her niece Isabella Palmer died Gatehouse 13 Apr 1886 aged 87.
