I don't know the parentage of your John Mitchell but one possibility is Robert and Eliz. Mitchell of Woodward Co., KY. They were my 5th great grandparents. Their oldest son was named John and I would guess that he was born in the mid-to-late 1760's. When his father wrote his will in 1803 he gave his eldest son John one shilling. Sons Robert, Samuel and Thomas were to split 600 acres of land in Madison County. I am descended from the youngest son, William, who split the home place in Woodward County with his brother Alexander. Robert Mitchell was born in Lancaster Co., PA about 1734. His family moved to Augusta Co., VA. (This land would now be in Monroe Co., WV.) I believe the land Robert owned in Madison Co., KY was first given or sold to Samuel Black. Robert was an assignee of Samuel Black. Some people also claim Robert Mitchell's wife was Elizabeth Gass. I do not know her last name and have seen no proof of this. I am also interested in the John Mitchell who married Margaret Gass in Madison Co. KY. I am related through their son William Mitchell who married Nancy Estes 24 Oct. 1811. Have you had any luck finding John's parents?
