Roper, 1881) p.690: "James Fflanders (Flandreau), a native of France, in 1664, appea rs as a resident of this town (New Rochelle) in 1710, together w ith Catherine, his wife, and their children, James Jr., Peter, a nd Betty." A forgotten source has his birthdate as 1711, but the above make s that unlikely. The name Peter Flandreau, with a variety of spellings, appears s everal times in the New Rochelle Town Records in the index of pu blic officials. It's not entirely clear how many Peter Flandrea us are referred to but it's quite possible they are all this Pet er. April 20, 1785. I, Peter Flandrau, o f New Rochelle, Westchester County, yeoman, being sick. I leav e to my brother, Benjamin Flandrau, house and land on southeas t side of the Country road, bounded on east by Nicholas Belly i n a straight line to James Motts land "on the Hammocks so caled " to above line between him and Benjamin Flandrau, also 10 acre s north of land formerly belonging to my brother, John Flandrau , deceased, with the privilege of a road near Belley's land to t he Country road "he keeping a good swing gate at the County road ." To Benjamin land I purchased of Anthony Lispenard bounded b y Nicholas Beley and Capt. Brown, and Thomas Huntington and sai d John Flandrau and Anthony Lispenard, deceased. To my eldest b rother James Flandrau, house and land he now lives on bounded b y Joseph Drake and south by the Creek 3 acres for life and "hi s wife her lifetime," and after their death to their son, Pete r Flandrau. Executors, Brother Elias and Benjamin Flandrau, Jr. Witnesses, Isaac Coutant, Elias Flandrau, Jr., Rueben Bloomer, o f Mamaroneck. Proved, Westchester County, June 16, 1785. Confirmed, New York , July 13, 1785. Peter might possibly be the husband of Anne Le Conte. His wil l mentions no children and suggests that, if married, his wife p receeded him in death. However, his brother John's will state d that a portion of the remainder of his estate should be divide d among the children of his brothers Peter, Benjamin, and Elias . The 1763 list of freeholders in New Rochelle lists Peter Flander o, Elias Flandero, and Benjamin Flandero as blacksmiths. References
