Percy Henry Feary was born in 1904 at Coventry, Warwickshire, son of Harriet Mitchell, formerly Bastock, and a motor engineer named Edward Scholes Feary. He had a twin sister, Lily, but she died as a baby in 1905. In 1909, when Percy was only four years old his mother Harriet died, aged 43. The 1911 census finds Percy living with his father, older brother Levi and three of his half siblings from his mother's marriage to Alfred Mitchell.

Some time after 1911 Percy's father left Coventry and moved to Lincolnshire, where he was originally from.

Percy was married in 1938 to a Florence Rose Bray. They do not appear to have had any children.

Florence died in 1963, aged 56. They had been married for 25 years. Percy outlived her by just over five years and died on 18th February 1969, aged 64. Immediately before his death he was living at 43 Alfred Street in Lincoln.
