MURLIN C. HERTSEL

Jan. 7, 1909-May 5, 2002

ELKHART -- Murlin C. Hertsel, 93, a resident of SunBridge Care & Rehabilitation Center, formerly of 181 N. Elkhart Ave., died at 11:46 p.m. Sunday (May 5, 2002) at Elkhart General Hospital.

Mr. Hertsel, the son of the late Russell and Orpha (Tyler) Hertsel, was born in Columbia City on Jan. 7, 1909, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Helen (Marks) Banner in Elkhart on Dec. 12, 1970, and she survives.

Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Joan) Ward of Elkhart, Carol Jacobs and Marline Oliveria, both of Brooklyn, N.Y.; four grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two stepsons, one stepdaughter; and several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren.

One grandson; two brothers, Otis and Donald; and three sisters, Calie Smith, Cleo Bonine and Ardith Carter, are deceased.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home & Crematory, where the service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Mark A. Kloess with Lutheran Church of the Redeemer will officiate and burial will be at Rice Cemetery.

Mr. Hertsel retired in 1974 from Champion Home Builders. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 19.

Memorials may be given to United Cancer Services of Elkhart County or the American Lung Association.
