Columbia City, IN Post and Mail, September 19, 1990 Callie M Smith, 92 formerly of 218 E VanBuren St., Columbia City, died at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday, September 18, 1990, at Columbia City Community Care Center. She had resided there since December of 1982. Mrs. Smith was born in Richland Township on August 28, 1898, a daughter of Russell and Orpha Tyler Hertsel. She was reared on a farm near Larwill, IN and educated at Larwill, IN School. On December 6, 1915, she was married to Ratio "Ted" Smith. They lived most of their lives in Washington Township until moving to Columbia City in 1974. Mr. Smith died August 18, 1982. Mrs. Smith was a member of First Church of God and the Cloverleaf Club. Surviving are a son, Lester Smith of Ligonier, daughters Mrs. Jack (Lois) Blanchard of Sarasota, Florida, Mrs. Ralph (Elouise) Juillerat of Churubusco, and Mrs. John (Orpha) Parkison of Wolf Lake. There are nine grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters Mrs. Earl (Cleo) Bonine of Cassopolis, MI; and Mrs Charles (Ardith) Carter of Edwardsburg, MI; and a brother Murlin Hertsel of Elkhart, IN. Four brothers Otis LeRoy Hertsel, Donald Hertsel, Glenn and Russell are deceased. The funeral will be at 1 P.M. Friday at Smith and Sons Funeral Home. Friends may call there from 1 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be at South Park Cemetery, Columbia City, IN. The funeral for Callie M Smith, 92 was Friday at Smith and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Blanchard, pastor of Dunfee Missionary Church officiating. Mrs. Randy Greene, organist, played "Rock of Ages", "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden". Pallbearers were relatives Kari Vilamaa, Larry Juillerat, Michael Morris, Don Holsinger, Vance Keister and Earl Bonine.
