Morgan BUNTYN was born about 1842 in Georgia (probably Pike County). He was enumerated on the 1850 and 1860 censuses in the household of his father.

On 21 August 1861, Morgan enlisted as a Private in Company A, Georgia 60th Infantry Regiment. He later was transferred to Company A, Georgia 22nd Siege Heavy Artillery.

During the few months that Morgan was a Confederate soldier, Morgan, his brother Frank and their uncle James M. MATTHEWS, wrote to and received letters from his sister, Elizabeth Buntyn. [The extant letters from Morgan to Elizabeth are available on microfilm from the Special Collections Department, Duke University Library, Durham, NC.]

According to the dateline on the letters, Morgan was based in the following locations during the Civil War:

08 February 1862, Fort Bartow, Georgia
20 March 1862, Costons Bluff, Georgia
15 May 1862, Camp Deptford, Georgia
03 August 1862, Springfield, Georgia
23 October 1862, Fort Bartow, Georgia

Morgan was infected with typhoid fever during his military service and died 03 November 1862 in Savannah, Georgia, at the tender age of approximately 19. His place of burial has not been located yet.
