Acquisition of Land from Chalkley's:

• Matthew Edmiston was living near Jenning' Creek prior to February, 1746, as listed in records below. The record of his acquisition is most likely in Orange County (the predecessor county of Augusta), Virginia records, where deeds were recorded prior to late-1745. Since Matthew's place of death is listed in Jenning's Creek, his original tract was probably larger than the 76 acres that he sold in 1757 to John Richey.

• Page 280.--28th May. 1751. Borden, etc., to Mathew Edmiston, 238 acres, tract surveyed for John Allen and for Wm. Smith; corner Wm. Cowdon.

(Note: based upon this record and some of the records listed below, Matthew Edmiston apparently was living on Jenning's Creek prior to 1746).

• Page 650.--20th June, 1764. Mathew ( ) Edmiston and Margret to Samuel Patterson, £55, 238 acres in Borden's tract, and conveyed to Mathew, 28th May, 1751; corner tract surveyed for William Smith; corner Wm. Cowden's land. Teste: Pat. Martin, James McCleerey, Jno. Mophet.

• Page 70.--27th September, 1780. Mathew (mark) Edmondson to John Kirk and David McNare, power of attorney to sell land. (Note: it is not indicated in Chalkley's where the land was located that was being sold by Matthew Edmiston).

• MARCH, 1758 (B).April 28, 1756.--This day Mathew Edmoston, Constable, made oath before me, Patrick Martin, &c., &c., that by virtue of an execution, &c., &c., versus the estate of John Young, &c., he seized the goods of said John Young and by violent force they were forceably taken and rescued from him by Robert Young, Sr., and his wife, Agnes. (Signed) Pat. Martin.
