Mary L. Morris, daughter of William R. and Harriet (Ross) Morris was born on 29 March 1867 in Cincinnati (Hamilton County), Ohio. She was often called Mamie. She was a poet and wrote a series of books called the Pridehurst series. Mary married Samuel B. Hammel, son of John H. and Mary (Morton) Hammel. Samuel was an attorney in Cincinnati. The family lived on Fair Park Avenue in Carthage (Hamilton County), Ohio for many years. Mary’s aunt, Fanny Ross was living with the family from 1900.
