Notes

Some confusion exists over the identities of Martha's parents, as well as her husband.

Source:Houston, 1882 gives two "Martha's" as daughters of James Houston, by his first and second wives, respectively. Martha (8) married William Woods, while Martha (7) married John Z. Houston

[[Person:Martha Houston. Marriage records for Blount County indicate that James married Mary Gillespie in 1796. The Martha (Patsy) who married John Gillespie did so in in 1799, and so could not be the daughter of James by Mary Gillespie.

These marriage records also give a Patsy Houston as marring WIlliam Woods in 1826. Houston, 1882:213 identifies "Patsy G." as the daughter of James Houston and Mary Gillespie. If in fact James had two separate daughters named Martha, perhaps the "G." was added to distinguish one from the other. The "G." presumably stands for "Gillespie". More likely, this is a different Martha Houston, and not the daughter of James and Mary, and Houston, 1882 has it wrong.
