MAGDALENA was born in Switzerland (probably in Canton Bern). She migrated with her family to Jefferson Township, Tuscarawas County, Ohio in circa 1837. No passenger lists have been found. She met and married her husband, John Jacob Lower there in 1843 (modern document included in this work).

She was probably a part of the "group of pioneers" who migrated on to Wabash County in circa 1848. At that time, there were two children. Three more came later.

Bertha Conrad of Urbana, Indiana, showed this compiler a photograph of Magdalena, on the front porch of the old Lauer home, north of Urbana.

Magdalena was buried in St. Peter's Urbana Cemetery. The tombstone image in this work was taken many years ago. The inscription on the stone is almost obscured now (2012). Note the LOWER spelling. James Haupert's Index uses the LAUER spelling. James also has her death as April, but the stone is clear that her death was in March. Unless the stone is wrong?

The enumeration shows her given name: "MEDDA"

Ron also has her date of death as: April 3, as does James Haupert. Ron must have copied the data from James, or both obtained their information from another source, which is obviously different from the tombstone.
