She had the same boundless enthusiasm as William Marshall, Jr. and worked as his secretary between marriages. She could be undiplomatic at times and was often at odds with Mary Esther. It is said that Dell looked like her Aunt Sade. Dell knew everything that went on in the Baptist Church. She played and taught the organ, and with a mirror in front of her, which they had in those days. she could see what was going on in the congregation, who bowed their heads in prayer, who slept through the sermon, which kids were giggling and acting up, etc. She was also treasurer and knew what everyone contributed. So every Sunday at dinner the family was given the lowdown on the state of people's souls.

These notes and comments were made by Virginia Spearman to William A. Coup.
