Cyrus Strickler Coup succeeded his father as manager of the Mount Vernon mill at his father's death in 1896. In 1899 he remodeled the plant completely, installing a new set of machinery. The capacity of the plant was increased from 250 barrels a day to 450 barrels a day. In 1901 he went to Toledo as vice-president. He later became president and general manager. He remained in Toledo for the rest of his life. He became head of the family after the death of his father. Cyrus was more conservative than William, Jr., and sometimes tended to curb his brother's flights of fancy. He was very generous with help when it was needed, financial and otherwise.

These notes and comments were made by Virginia Spearman to William A. Coup.
