Facts and Events
The primary document for the identification of the immediate family of Leysebet Janse is a sort of inheritance agreement which was signed on the 16th of December, 1666 in Flatbush. This document was briefly abstracted by David McQueen in 1916 in NYGBR and a longer extract was given by Charles Hoppin in his work, "The Washington Ancestry". The document names all three of her husbands and all four of her known children. It also identifies her only son-in-law. It does not give us a date for any of her marriages, although presumably the document was drawn up close to the time of her marriage to Aucke Jansen. The document indicates that Willem Jansen Van Barkelo and Leysebet Janse, the daughter of Jan Claesen and Leysebet Janse, were already married by 16 December 1666 also. It is presumed that it was the marriage of Aucke Jansen and Leysebet Janse which brought about the necessity for the guardians of Claes and Stoffel to request the contract guaranteeing the boys their inheritance from their father. [edit] ImmigrationLike the other members of her family, it is assumed that Leysebet, her husband and her children, came as a group at the same time. No record of their arrival has been found and the year given is base on the statement made by her youngest son in 1687 when he took the Oath of Allegiance to British. At that time he stated that he had lived in the colony for 34 years. Death Date No certain death date has yet been found. However, on 10 Oct 1672, the guardians for Leysebet's children required a new inheritance agreement from Aucke Jansen Van Nuys concerning their inheritance from their mother's estate. Thus we know that Leysebet had died before that date. References
