Praise to God! In Midwout, December 16, 1666 A. D., New Style
Appeared before us, the undersigned Magistrates and Overseers of the Court of Midwout, Leysebet Jans, widow of Jan Claeszen, dec., and at present married to Auke Jans: And as the aforesaid Leysbet Jans has some surviving children which she bore by the aforesaid Jan Claesz., deceased., excepting a son named Johannes Cristoffels whom she bore by Cristoffels Schaets, and these hereafter named she bore by Jan Claesz, dec.; viz. Leysebet Jans, Claes Jansen, Cristoffel Jans; therefore the aforesaid Leysebet has agreed in all love and friendship with the appointed guardians, viz., Tuenes Helbrant Van Dickhuys and Jan Sueberen, that the said children shall receive for their fathers patrimony or inheritance, once and for all, as follows: viz., Johannes Cristoffel shall have once and for all four hundred guildens, which he acknowledges with thanks that he has already received: and Leysebet Jans now married to William Jansz Van Borkeloo shall have likewise four hundred guildens which she also acknowledges with thanks that she has received: and Claes Jansz with Cristoffel Jans shall enjoy for their father's inheritance the sum of one thougsand guldens for the two or five hundred guldens each for their share, which they shall receive when they become of age or arrive at their marriage day. They shall also have one heifer, which they have already received and which shall remain on shares with their father and mother as long as they live, provided that the said children shall receive the whole profit thereof except the butter & milk, provided also that Auke Jans and his wife Elysebet Jans shall treat and rear said children, Claes and Cristoffel as a father & mother should their own children. Item. Auke Jans and his wife further promise to give to Elysabet Clas a serge coat together with an apron made and complete and the coat with nonperly. This aforesaid coat and apron Auke Jans and Elysebet Janse promise to provide as soon as a ship comes here to New Yorck from Holland or else within a year and a day after date. For the performance and fulfillment hereof Auke Janse and Elysabet Jans pledge their persons and propety, movable and (im)movable, present and future, nothing excepted, present and future, in particular the bowery, house and house-lot situate in Midwout, which they pledge under a special mortgage, in submission to all laws and judges. Thus done and issued without deceit or trick, executed in Midout the 16th of December, 1666, in Midwout on Long Island.
