Facts and Events
Name Johannes Christoffelse Schaers
Gender Male
Birth[2] Abt 1638
Immigration[3] 1653 New Netherlands
Marriage Abt 1662 to Marritje Willemse Bennet
Death[1] Bef 4 Dec 1684 Brooklyn, Kings, New York, United Statesestate accounting

The only proof of the identity of Johannes' parents comes from an inheritance agreement made on 16 Dec 1666. It does not actually give his date of birth or his birthplace. However, the fact that there were no guardians created for him and the document states that he has already received his own patrimony, seems to suggest that he was already of age by late 1666. In the English legal system, this would mean that he was at least 21 by this date. Under Dutch customs, however, the legal are of majority was 25.

Immigration

Since no documentary evidence of the actual arrival of the family of Jan Claeszen and Leysebet Jans has been found, the assumption is made that they came together as a group. The date is calculated from the statement made by Stoffel Janszen in 1687 that he had lived in the province for 34 years at the time that he took the Oath of Allegiance to the English government.

Death

Although the accounting for the estate of Johannes was made in 1684, it was not actually recorded until 7 Oct 1690.
