[Walston GEDCOM.FTW] My NOTES on Levi Moore Walston as of June 2005 - Helen Graves 4074 Hwy 147 Lake Almanor, CA 96137 c. Sept 7, 1791 - estimated birth date for Levi Moore Walston -- based upon his death date of Jan 27, 1866 and his age at time of death on his tombstone which was listed as being 74yrs 4mo 20 days. This calculates to being born about Sept 7, 1791. He was born in Greene Co., NC, according to a deposition made by his widow in her Application for Widow's Pension for Levi's War of 1812 service. Who his parents were have not been proven. However, via the process of elimination, my #1 prospect for his father is a Philip Walston who was taxed in Greene Co., NC, at this time period. This Philip Walston also continued to live in Greene Co., NC, whereas a John Walston and a William Walston (who also lived in Greene Co. ca 1790) either moved away or died. Who Levi's mother was is not known. Per tombstones in the Walston cemetery at Walstonburg, Greene Co., NC, the wife of Philip Walston was named "Millie" on a tombstone. Who "Millie" was is not known as of June 2005. She could have been a second wife and not the mother of his children. ______________________ Per Widow's Application for Levi Moore Walston's War of 1812 Pension: He served in Capt. Parson's Co., NC Militia (other documents say it was Capt Abner Pasteur) Residences: 1822 - Saline Salt Works, Gallatin Co., IL 1845 - to St. Francois Co., MO 1853 - to Duncan, Mercer Co., IL Rec'd a land warrant about 1850. She made no reference to living in Pope Co., IL, in 1845. Yet, Levi Walston is listed on the 1845 census for Pope Co., IL. She also said he was a farmer when he enlisted, that he was 6 ft. tall, had black hair, dark eyes, and had a fair complexion. Notes on the outside of his file: A Levi M. Watson (sic) listed under Capt. Abner Pastor served from July 29, 1813 to Jan 21, 1814; volunteered July 15, 1814 and discharged Jan 15, 1815. This was not him, as he did not list this service when he applied for bounty land. Warrant No. 22,500 for 80 acres of land April 26, 1855. He deposed that he had served under Capt Abner Pasteur, NC Militia, War of 1812. Levi M. Walston received the warrant and "disposed of it" which probably means he sold it. (The documents do not say where this bounty land was located.) In his application filed in 1850 while living at St. Francois Co., MO, Levi M. Walston, age 59, said he volunteered at Snow Hill, Greene Co., NC, and served from 15 July 1814 and was discharged at Fort Hampton in NC on 15 Jan 1815. (His dates match what is written on the outside of his file.) ________________________________ 1815-1819: At some time between his discharge on Jan 15, 1815, and 1819, Levi M.
