"Joseph Hawley married, about 1645, Katherine _____, who probably died 25 June 1691. Katherine has been stated to be a Katherine Birdsey, daughter of an Edward Birdsey. There is no proof of such a marriage, nor does the name of Edward Birdsey appear in the early colonial records. If she was a Birdsey, she may have been a sister of John Birdsey, who settled in Stratford, and left a will mentioning his two children, John and Joanna."
