"… she was a widow, or woman of property, when he [Samuel Porter] married her and it may be noted that her name is not given, nor was she buried in Hadley. But the deeds on file at Springfield furnish the real clue:
20 September 1716, Jonathan Jenckes of Suffield mortgages to Mrs Hannah Porter of Hadley land in Enfield; witnessed by James Ferman, John Whipple, and Eleazer Porter [her step-son]. (Hampshire Deeds, C: 191.) This mortgage was discharged by Hannah Porter of Windsor, 29 March 1725; witnessed by William and Sarah Woolcott. (ibid., D: 486.)
19 April 1725, John Pryor of Enfield, husbandman, for £50 mortgages to 'the Widow Hannah Porter now Resident In Windsor' land in Enfield; witnessed by Samuel Parsons, Joseph Sexton, and Joseph Sexton Jr. Also called in this transfer, 'Mrs Hannah Porter.' (ibid., D: 481.)"
