Facts and Events
Born in a log cabin on "German Road". Only time out of area was in 1921 he went to Tennessee and bought a farm. He returned to Sodus where he engaged in carpentry work and farming. He worked intermittently for Noble Price Plumbing for years. At first he was a tenant farmer, operating at least six farms before finally purchasing the old Braithwaite farm on Yore Avenue in Sodus Twp. He farmed up until his death in 1949. He was not a member of any organized church, yet to him the Sabbath day was a day of rest and meditation. If the horses had worked the day before, they were not to be driven or ridden on Sunday. He would never harvest fruit or grain on Sunday, or engage in any work other than the absolute necessities. He was most considerate of his neighbors and was always ready to go to the aid of anyone in need. He never used tobacco or alcoholic beverages in any form. He did not curse, swear, use profane or off-colored language and was always a gentleman. He was ambitious and not afraid of hard work, and although he did not leave material wealth of any amount, he left a wealth of good memories and love to those he left behind. |
