Traverse City, Record Eagle; Sept. 18, 1994 "Obituary" John James Porter "Died Sept. 17, 1994" Benzonia -- John James Porter, a lifelong resident of Benzonia, died Sunday morning at Munson Medical Center, Traverse City, at the age of 70. John was born on Sept. 2, 1924, in Benzonia Twp., The son of Eric D. & Pearl May (Long) Porter. He was united in marriage to the former Adelle Cady on June 25, 1955, in the Bear Lake, Methodest Church. During his lifetime John was self-employed as an appliance repairman. He loved working and helping people and was known by many as "Mr. Fix-it" John served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the Benzie Area Church of Christ. John is survived by his wife, Adelle of Benzonia; two daughters, Jan Marie Porter of Benzonia amd Mrs. Len (Marcy) Dunlap of Benzonia; a foster daughter, Mrs. Earl (Sharon) Ennis of Traverse City; brother David (Gwen) Porter of Benzonia; two foster grandaughters, Samantha & Sarah; and numerous neices, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Minnie Mae Moore and Olive Hopkins Services for John will be held on Monday at 11 a m at the Benzie Area Church of Christ. The Rev. Robert Bodell will officiate. Burial will take place in the Benzonia Twp. cemetery, Benzonia. Visitation will be held today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p m at the McElduff Funeral Home in Frankfort. The family suggest memorial contributitions in memory of John be derected to the Benzie Area Church of Christ.
