McDowell, John - entered service 1776 in Virginia regiment; moved soon after Revolutionary War from Rockbridge County, Virginia, to Kentucky, where granted Pension age 73 in Fayette County in 1831; granted Bounty Land Warrant #1749 there then; died there 7/18/1835 leaving widow Jane, who was granted his Pension arrears; son William living in 1844; query letter in file 1914 from descendant Mrs. Charles Ratliff, Texarkana, Texas; query letter in file 1937 from Mrs. W.S. Dozier, Dawson, Georgia, who was descendant of a Virginia Revolutionary War soldier John McDowell {this is a different John McDowell}, born 1758-9 in Virginia, died 1828-1830 in Hardin County, Virginia, his children's deaths: Nancy 1/11/1945, John Jr. 3/11/1840, Mary 2/2/1850, William Allen 2/14/1850 & Swepson 11/17/1877 (born 1795, married Elizabeth Carman, who was born 1802 & died 12/13/1856; query letter in file 1920 from great great grandaughter Mrs. Jane Leighton, Iowa City, Iowa, states soldier & son William among early settlers on land on White River between Terre Haute & Indianapolis, In. F-W30578, R1678.
